We celebrated World Water Day under the theme “Cheers to Nature”at our Mbarara Plant—a site that has achieved a remarkable 40% reduction in water usage since 2013 (when it was commissioned) through innovative technologies and sustainable practices.
The event began with a bamboo tree-planting initiative along the buffer zone of River Rwizi, reinforcing our commitment to improving water quality and availability in the regions where we operate. This year’s celebrations highlighted the transformative power of partnerships in driving sustainable change. We were honored to host representatives from WWF, NEMA, Catchment Management Committee, the Ministry of Water and Environment, local government, and the Rwizi catchment committee, whose collaboration is vital to our shared goals.
Following the tree-planting, guests embarked on a brewery tour led by our Brewing Manager, showcasing cutting-edge water-saving technologies and initiatives that reduce consumption while enhancing the quality of discharged water.
The ceremony culminated in a special “Cheers to Nature” awards ceremony, where we recognised water stewardship champions from across the plant’s departments for their outstanding contributions to conservation efforts.
As we reflect on this milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing water stewardship and reducing our environmental footprint. Together with our partners and communities, we strive to create a lasting positive impact for generations to come.
