Lira youth wins Be A Millionaire

David the 25-year-old proprietor of David Loura investments aced three of his five quiz questions to topple the other contestants. Each correct answer during the quiz was rewarded with Ugx 1m, meaning he got to walk home with the Ugx 13m including price money Ugx 10m. and a 50′ Inch TV.

Priscilla Kisakye of CAPRI’s bakery came in second after getting two of her questions right. The other contestants in the final were Kenneth Ojok, Emmanuel Etyak and Ronald Okurut who came in third, fourth and fifth respectively. Held at the Next Media Park on October 19th, the finale aired live on NBS TV was graced by the Minister of Trade Hon Harriet Ntabazi who thanked NBL for not only contributing a lion’s share to the revenue collection but also creating initiatives, such as Be A Millionaire, to empower the youth. She asked for the campaign to be run annually, to which Onapito Ekomoloit the NBL Director of Legal & Corporate Affairs confirmed a season three next year. “This is just the beginning. A lot is yet to come,” he assured.

Among the invited guests at the finale was the Assistant Commissioner of Youth and Children Department at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development – Kyateka F Mondo who acknowledged that every job created makes a difference because of the multiplier effect it comes along with.

From the 200+ entries received, 50 contestants were selected and subjected to a Bootcamp conducted by Enterprise Uganda. In the Bootcamp, they were exposed to the key competencies of successful entrepreneurs. From this lot, the top 25 were selected and consequently the 5 finalists. “The Bootcamp was not only meant to prepare the candidates for the quiz, but also prepare them to walk the journey of entrepreneurship,” said Noah Wandera from Enterprise Uganda. “I believe even those who were not able to make it to the top 25 will be able to operate sustainable businesses from the lessons and the various entrepreneurship skills taught to them,” he noted.

The #NBLBeAMillionaire season 2 ran a span of three months with 5 weeks of face-off quizzes airing on Capital FM. Speaking on NBS Morning Breeze, Flora Aduk the NBL Communications Manager hinted about season three coming up soon and having its own twists. “It will be open in April. Entrepreneurs should look out for it,” she said.
