NILE BREWERIES SCOOPS CSR AWARD 2016
Nile Breweries Limited was last week named the 2016 Corporate Social Responsibility Champion in Uganda.
This was during the 2nd CSR Conference & Awards organized by the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) held at UMA multi-purpose Hall on Friday last week.
The company also won the Best Energy Management and Wealth and Income Creation categories for the work done with the local farmers in Uganda.
“We are proud of where we stand as a company; we see ourselves as a brewery that is modern and progressing while creating a difference in Uganda’s society and economy as a whole,” Greg Metcalf the Nile Breweries Limited Managing Director says.
The Uganda CSR Awards aim to encourage the private sector, public as well as non-profit organizations in Uganda to develop sustainable activities and to increase the recognition of CSR principles in the public perception.
“It is designed to show that companies and organizations can strengthen their core business, increase their profitability and competitiveness and at the same time contribute to the country’s development by helping to solve social and ecological problems,” as indicated on the Award’s website.
“Companies that combine exemplary economic success with social responsibility and protection of the environment were awarded”
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, who officiated the event, said that there was a need for the government to waive taxes on goods and services provided by corporations through their corporate social responsibility activities.
This year there were 67 very high quality entries from all the major companies (34 companies) in Uganda to include Century Bottling, Stanbic Bank, Kakira Sugar, Cipla Quality Chemicals among others.
