Recommitting to Water Stewardship goals

Our shared ambition to measurably improve water quality and quantity in identified high-risk sites by 2025 has enabled us to build sustainable partnerships. For four years now, AB InBev Africa and WWF have been focusing on #measurableimpact, #collectiveaction and #bankablenaturebased solutions to drive improvement in water availability and quality, in our high-risk watersheds. AB InBev is the parent company of Nile Breweries Ltd.

The Kakigaani Catchment that feeds off R. Rwizi in Western Uganda is one such area, others include the Kafue Basin in Zambia, the Incomati and Umbeluzi Rivers in Mozambique and Tanzania’s Ruvu and Mzimbazi rivers. Teams from both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to water stewardship recently at a workshop from 25-27 October 2022 in Dar es Salaam Tanzania last week themed “Water Stewardship for Africa”. The gathering that comprised  WWF and AB InBev market leads, in-country teams, governmental stakeholders and partners was an opportunity for them to share knowledge, foster thought leadership and drive water stewardship in local communities.

They also visited Dar es Salaam’s water abstraction and supply network, to understand the context of water supply in and around the city. “Having started our interventions in the Rwizi catchment in 2019, we reaffirm our commitment to implement interventions that will enhance the resilience & adaptive capacity of freshwater ecosystems & communities to water risks in the catchment so we continue to create #AFutureWithMoreCheers,” said Clare Asiimwe, Sustainability NBL.

Andre Fourie, Global Sustainability VP at AB InBev, said “The equitable and universal provision of safe, affordable water and ecosystem restoration is one of the Sustainable Development Goals, and underpins our partnership with the WWF and collaboration with local stakeholders on how we can have a sustainable, positive impact in this regard.”
