We continue to evolve to uphold and maintain high health and safety standards throughout our organisation as we celebrate World Safety Day today under the theme: “Act together to build a positive Safety and Health Culture” Employees are a company’s most valuable resource. It is vital that employers foster environments in which their employees can work safely and intelligently in any situation.
Many people underestimate the amount of work that takes place behind the scenes at a typical brewery. Brewing is labour and skills intensive and requires a vigilant focus on safety in order to ensure a safe work environment. The risk of injury at a brewery ranges from routine slips and falls and unsecured kegs to caustic chemicals used in a confined space, and improper use of personal protective equipment.
Packaged gases and caustic chemicals are a major component in brewing. These supplies can be dangerous if not properly handled. The wearing of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is not merely a suggestion for employees, it is a requirement for NBL. NBL has built a culture where employees are expected to wear the proper gear every time, they perform routine tasks. There is always a requirement for stringent safety standards to be in place at all times to prevent accidents, injuries and occupational illnesses. This requires in-depth knowledge within our operations through management leadership and employee involvement.
As a brewer, NBL has a responsibility to its employees and customers to uphold the highest standards of safety. NBL is committed to complying with all applicable health, safety laws and regulations, company standards and other requirements to which they subscribe. We also apply responsible standards where local laws and regulations may not meet the minimum standards.
NBL has identified how important open communication is to ensuring safety within our breweries. Discussing with employees the simple question “Do you feel safe working here?” has often sparked a conversation about safety within the workplace and given employees an opportunity to speak up and raise concerns if need be.
Through regular and comprehensive safety training we believe that employees are best equipped to handle both less severe, more common situations and more extreme scenarios. NBL understands how crucial it is to invest in proper safety materials and to stay focused on all employees’ safety, and will continue to do so, ensuring that every employee is empowered to stay safe at work and return home safely at the end of the day.
