World Water day market cleaning

Nile Breweries employees joined the Ministry of Water and Environment, Directorate of Water Resources Management, Uganda, residents and partners like Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Luzira SS, for an awareness campaign and clean up exercise in Kitintale and Luzira markets today. This was part of preparations for the celebration of Uganda Water and Environment week UWEWK2022. The UWEWK2022 week will run from Sunday 20th- to Friday 25th March.

From our farmers to our breweries to our consumers, our value chain relies on clean water. More than just a key ingredient in our products, water is a critical resource for the health and well-being of communities around the world. The clean-up exercise aimed to profile and demonstrate the different issues related to water, sanitation, hygiene, environment and climate change.

As shared by the ministry, the objective of such clean-up exercises is to raise awareness among the community and the stakeholders about the need for:

  • Efficient and sustainable management and use of water and environment resources.
  • Proper sanitation and hygiene within the communities for improved health and control of water and environmental pollution.
  • Sustainable solid waste management and maintenance of cleanliness within the environment.
  • Partnership and inter-sectoral collaboration in maintaining cleanliness within the environment and ensuring proper management and development of water and environment resources.

As we join in the commemoration of Uganda Water and Environment week, we concur with this statement by the Minister of State for Environment, Hon Beatrice Anywar as she launched #UWEWK2022, “Water and environment resources go hand in hand and contribute to the economic development of the country so let us all protect and prioritize them”.
